Former SF DA Harris loses presidential bid

Vice President Kamala Harris lost her bid for the presidency to former President Donald Trump , with the former president projected to flip key battleground states of Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin as of early Wednesday morning, according to The Associated Press.

Harris’ ascent to the top of the presidential ticket generated widespread excitement this summer that culminated in nail-biting and screen-gazing in bars and at election watch parties through San Francisco. During the Trump years, San Francisco resorted to legal challenges to push back against federal policies that local leaders opposed.

She was President Joe Biden’s VP choice, however, setting her up — unbeknownst at the time — to replace Biden on the ticket this summer.

Biden’s standing in the polls was lackluster and he continued to face calls to step down from national Democratic leadership as well as Democrats at the local level, including in San Francisco.
