Harris County may sue state comptroller after defunding police accusation derailed budget process

an additional $100 million in funding included in the new spending plan, county officials said.

On Wednesday, Commissioners Court could vote to authorize two outside law firms to file a lawsuit against the comptroller. If the county does pursue legal action, other state officials could be named, as well. Abbott weighed in on the accusation last week,On HoustonChronicle.

At last week’s Commissioners Court meeting, when Precinct 4 Commissioner Jack Cagle asked whether the state law allows the county to reach an agreement with constables and notify the comptroller's office of the agreement, First Assistant County Attorney Jonathan Fombonne said that was unclear, but the comptroller would have to rescind his letter before the court could approve the proposed budget.
