“You have a federal bill from soup to nuts that’s passed bipartisanly by a Democratic House and Republican Senate, and the forgiveness is in that bill,” he said of the paycheck protection program. “It is completely different than an executive order without any appropriations that will be challenged to the Supreme Court.”
Republican critics have pointed to estimates that suggest it could cost the government over $300 billion. They have also argued it is unfair to those who have already paid off their debt, as well as the vast majority of American adults who do not have student loans.
