Two Harris County deputies were involved in a crash on Katy Freeway while off-duty.
Two Harris County deputies were hospitalized in critical condition after an off-duty crash Sunday morning.
At 2:48 a.m. on the Katy freeway, the deputies, in a Toyota 4Runner, were driving outbound and struck the wall of the exit ramp, commander of the Houston Police Vehicle Crimes Division Michael Chaney told On Scene TV. The 4Runner spun across the lanes and a Toyota Corolla on the road stopped to avoid striking the 4Runner, Chaney said. The 4Runner slid across all lanes, struck the high occupancy vehicle wall, bounced off and hit the Corolla. When the 4Runner struck the wall, the two deputies were ejected, Chaney said.
The Corolla occupant was also struck and remained on scene. They were not transported to the hospital. Chaney said it is a large scene and there is no evidence on the scene thus far indicating alcohol was involved.
