The clock is ticking as another election problem looms in Harris County.
Voters arrive at the West Gray Metropolitan Multi-Service Center on March 1, 2022, in Houston. Harris County Democrats have accused their Republican counterparts of excluding predominantly Black and Latino areas from a"disturbingly racist" map of proposed voting locations for the May 24 primary runoff.
Harris County Democrats have accused their GOP counterparts of “willfully delaying the planning process in order to create turmoil that will further erode confidence in our democratic elections.” Harris County runoff ballots will include roughly 20 primary contests in both parties that were not decided during the first round. That includes several statewide and countywide contests that will appear on ballots across Harris County, and others that cover only a fraction of the county. There also are runoffs for some party precinct chairs.
A final agreement appeared far from imminent Thursday, after Democrats sharply criticized a proposed map submitted the day before by the Harris County Republican Party.
