Vice President Kamala Harris has faced scrutiny over her past stance on gun control as she campaigns for re-election. Critics highlight her previous support for handgun bans and statements suggesting government intrusion into homes to ensure firearm safety. Harris now emphasizes a focus on universal background checks, safe storage laws, and red flag laws while asserting that she will not take anyone's guns away.

"I believe we need to reinstate the assault weapons ban, universal background checks, safe storage laws and red flag laws," said Harris.Tim Walz and I are both gun owners. We will not take anybody’s guns away," Harris said in a September campaign

Critics point out Harris supported banning handguns earlier in her career. In 2005 while serving as District Attorney of San Francisco, Harris sponsored Proposition H which banned San Francisco residents from buying, owning, and even possessing handguns.

Meanwhile, Trump has promised to protect gun rights by appointing federal judges who oppose new firearm limits should he win in November. Guns have received little attention this election cycle. While it's still a top issue for voters it trails behind the economy, inflation, the border and reproductive rights for many voters.
