The wife of 2023 Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel has revealed how many jokes about Will Smith 'we had that then we got rid of' following last year's infamous on-stage slap.
, after last year's ceremony saw the actor storm the stage and slap Chris Rock for poking fun at his wife Jada Smith.
McNearney said she and Kimmel agreed not to go"harder" with the slap jokes because the executive team felt it was Rock's story to tell. “I cannot tell you how many Will Smith jokes we had that then we got rid of. We think that only the best for that room made it. McNearney added that"we really liked the idea" of making fun of the reaction to the slap last year, but"we're all still in a bit of shock".
“We want you to have fun, we want you to feel safe and, most importantly, we want me to feel safe. So, we have strict policies in place,” Kimmel said on Sunday . “Hopefully, tonight it goes off without hitch. Or at least, without Hitch,” he said, referencing Smith’s character in his 2005 hit movie.Smith made headlines when he called out Rock, who likened his wife Jada to the bald-headed character “G.I Jane 2” at the 94th Oscars last year.
