As the season winds down, Ava Schramm understands there is no time to get complacent
Little did she know that hard work in the offseason would earn her a spot on the varsity field hockey team in head coach Elizabeth Jacobs’ first season.“It was something I was working toward all summer. I was going to camps, and I was running constantly. I ran the fastest mile I’ve ever run. I was pushing myself so much. To see that hard work was paying off, was such a big deal.”
As the last three years have progressed, that desire to get better and win has led to becoming a leader. “She’s telling the girls what we need to do, what she needs to do, but then she also shows it. She’s always on time for practice, always doing that little extra and just being a leader on and off the field.”“It has been a huge responsibility, but it has also been such an amazing experience,” said Schramm, who has been part of ASB for three years.
“That’s definitely shaped a lot about who I am,” said Schramm, who hopes to study nursing in college. “I take a lot of responsibility in caring for my siblings including my brother, who just turned 7. There are nights I’ve had to make dinner.
