When Henry came calling, with his cute little beep and a whir, I was in my pajamas. This was my first interaction with a robot, and I started the video on my phone. He opened his lid and invited me to retrieve my coffee and pastry, before rating the service on his screen. In all the excitement, my room door closed, leaving me red-faced in the hall in my nighty.

Henry is one of four hospitality robots that deliver everything from lotion to lattes at this trendy Mission Bay hotel. He and his android pals Lumie, Lucy and Lola even have their own trading cards, capitalizing on the property’s proximity to Oracle Park and Chase Center.

“Everybody loves our robots, and the kids go crazy, so we developed baseball cards for them,” says Luma Hotel General Manager Lee Severino. “We have all their stats from last year of how many deliveries they did and how many good compliments they got. ” On a busy Saturday or Sunday, they might have 40 room-service calls. Luma is the only hotel in Mission Bay, one of San Francisco’s hottest entertainment hubs.

Not only can visitors walk to the Giants, Warriors and Valkyries games, the hotel has room packages that bundle their suite at Chase Center so you can watch basketball like a VIP. Other guest packages partner with Gold Bar Distillery for a craft cocktail class on Treasure Island and SpinOut Fitness for guided scenic water bike tours on San Francisco Bay.

You can even book a kayak package with Dogpatch Paddle that lets you watch a live Giants baseball game from a kayak in McCovey Cove. Paddlers have been known to catch a home run ball or two in the calm waters of what’s fondly known as the Splash Zone. Luma isn’t just big on entertainment. It’s popular Latin-themed rooftop restaurant and bar has bold takes on craft cocktails and flavor-driven dishes like empanadas, ceviche, tostadas and tacos.

The view from Cavana, 17 stories above the city, is as enjoyable as the food. Guests also have the option of ordering breakfast at Twyne Coffee Bar and a favorite varietal at Trevino Wine Bar. There are 299 state-of-the-art guest rooms that take advantage of natural light during the day and smart lighting that adapts to your mood by night. The hotel is popular with visiting team athletes and has a state-of-the-art fitness center.

San Francisco’s Muni T-line is also nearby for easy transportation to destinations like Moscone Center, Union Square and Chinatown. The transformation of Mission Bay from an “industrial wasteland” to a premier waterfront district has been decades in the making. Luma Hotel and its Cavana are key to San Francisco’s plan to make Mission Bay an economic engine that drives the future of this world-class city.
