Owner Jerry Gardner has been blacksmithing for more than 20 years and opened The Blacksmith Experience to give others a chance to try something unique while learning about metalworking. Gardner says the shop currently offers a variety of knife-making classes, typically lasting between 4 to 6 hours.
One popular option is the “knife-making date night” class, which includes dinner along with all necessary materials, safety gear, and equipment. Gardner also runs summer classes for teens ages 14 to 18, where students learn how to create a stock-removal knife and a custom leather sheath. The Blacksmith Experience also offers various opportunities to create other metal items, giving participants a broader introduction to blacksmithing techniques and tools. In addition to his business, Gardner founded a nonprofit called Forging a Difference, which uses blacksmithing and knife-making to serve veterans, law enforcement, and first responders.
