A man has reportedly been left paralysed after he fell from his seat in a moving police van and broke his neck. Surveillance footage captured the moment Richard Cox slammed against the wall of the vehicle and slumped to the floor.

He had been put in the van, which didn’t have seatbelts, in handcuffs. When it braked suddenly, he went flying from the seat and hit his head.

He currently is using a breathing tube and can only communicate by nodding and shaking his head, his attorney added. Cox’s attorney Ben Crump , who has famously represented the families of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Trayvon Martin, is now campaigning for answers.

Partially paralyzed, the man makes subtle motions with his right and left fists at certain prompts, such as 'select cut location,' so that the machine slices off a bite-sized piece. Now: 'Moving food to mouth,' and another subtle gesture to align the fork with his mouth.
