Hammond Police are investigating the drowning death of a 17-month-old boy earlier this month.
Hammond Police spokesman Lt. Steve Kellogg said Monday that officers were called at around 9:45 p.m. August 16 to the 100 block of Warren Street about a child found lying in a swimming pool. Hammond Fire was also called in and attempted lifesaving measures, Kellogg said.The child was initially taken to Franciscan Hammond, then later flown to Comer Children’s Hospital in Chicago, where he died Saturday, Kellogg said.
The Chicago Medical Examiner’s office on August 28 declared Elias Ortiz, of the 100 block of Warren St., dead from delayed drowning, according to a release.
