But instead of celebrating at home with his family and friends, he was somewhere in Gaza, one of more than 200 Israelis held hostage by Hamas since their devastating Oct. 7 incursion.
"We have informed intermediaries that we will release a certain number of foreigners in the next few days," Abu Obeida, a spokesman for Ezzedine Al-Qassam Brigades, said in a televised address. Hamas is holding an estimated 240 hostages, a result of its Oct. 7 attack on Israel which killed hundreds and triggered fierce retaliation from the Jewish state. The terrorist organization has released five hostages thus far.“As we promised this enemy, Gaza will be a grave for him and a cradle for his soldiers, his force and his political and military leadership,” Oubeida said.
The terrorist organization also touted the destruction of several Israeli military vehicles using suicide bombs and other explosive devices. “The Mujahideen were able, with the help of God, to engage with the enemy forces at every point of advance and destroy 22 military vehicles so far with the Yassin 105 anti-armor shells that were severely damaged and highly penetrated and with the destructive suicide bombs that were used during this battle in a large and powerful way by engaging with the enemy vehicles and detonating them by placing bombs on them from a distance of zero," Obeida said.
