Hamas has declared Yahya Sinwar as the new head of its political bureau following the death of his predecessor, Ismail Haniyeh, from an airstrike in Iran.

Picture: AP Photo/Adel Hana, File“The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas announces the selection of Commander Yahya Sinwar as the head of the political bureau of the movement, succeeding the martyr Commander Ismail Haniyeh, may Allah have mercy on him,” the statement read.
Nour Odeh, a Palestinian political analyst based in Ramallah told Al Jazeera that Sinwar's appointment sends a clear message to Israel.
