The Alaska Chapter of Safari Club International is coordinating a deer hunt to provide food for evacuees

ANCHORAGE , Alaska - The Alaska Chapter of Safari Club International is organizing a special hunt to help Alaska Native evacuees displaced by former Typhoon Halong . The event will take six Alaska Native hunters to Prince William sound, where, “we’re going to hopefully get up to 30 deer between 6 hunters that were chosen by one of the Kipnuk liaisons,” said Kyle Tripp, director of the Alaska Chapter of Safari Club International.

“With those 30 deer, we’re hoping to end with a culminating potluck, bringing out as much of the community together that we can feed their families and have that pride in providing to their community.”“The tradition of hunting with those communities are huge and paramount,” he said. “Right now, they’re just in hotels and they’re eating with microwaves. So, I think they kind of lack that outdoor experiences that might be cooping them up”“Transportation, boat charter, guiding, meat processing and food storage requirements are being assembled, purchased, and/or donated,” according to a press release from SCI. A plan is being developed to host the post-hunt potluck at the Alaska Native Heritage Center, featuring dishes made of the harvested meat. The organization noted it has supported Native hunters before, including after a fire in Hooper Bay, where it replaced firearms lost in the disaster “At Safari Club International Alaska Chapter, we pride ourselves in three ways we can help our community,” Tripp said. “Hunter conservation rights protection, youth outdoor education, and humanitarian ”3 killed in crash near Portage identified by policeNo SNAP emergency funding, state says, as benefits set to end Nov. 1Sullivan votes to block Senate measure intended to preempt American bombing of Venezuela
