However, with the negative critical and viewer reaction to Die Another Day, it made sense for a new actor to take over the role. Throughout the years, Brosnan has made it clear it was not his decision to leave the part and that he was fired from the franchise.
While Brosnan's exit from the James Bond franchise was out of his control, speculation has pointed toward failed salary negotiations driving the decision. However, considering the negative reaction to Die Another Day, it makes sense that creatives behind the film were looking for a fresh face to take on the series. Daniel Craig, Brosnan's replacement, offered a more serious, back-to-basics take on the character.
