The 2021 Final Four Most Outstanding Player and two-time All-American will begin her professional career next month.
While Jones has played for four years at Stanford, the extra year of eligibility given to any player that participated in the 2020-21 season — a COVID year, as it’s been called — has led several players to stay for a fifth year,Still, Jones gave several indications throughout the season that she viewed 2022-23 as her final college year and would turn pro after it was over.
“Winning a national championship, three Pac-12 championships, 2 Pac-12 tournament championships; so I have a lot to be proud of for my Stanford career,” Jones said on March 19. “It’s hard to feel that way right now, but I know at some point that will hit and sink in. I’m happy with my time at Stanford and the relationships I’ve made that are going to carry on past my playing days here. I’ve made a lot of great friendships. Yeah, I think my time at Stanford, I have a lot to be proud of.
Where Jones goes in the WNBA Draft is still up for debate and could change still. Players on the teams that reached the Elite Eight or later have until 48 hours after their final game of the season to make a declaration or not. South Carolina’s Aliyah Boston is expected to be the No. 1 overall pick if she elects to turn pro, but she could elect to stay in college for an additional year.
