The beauty founder has two washday routines.
The secret to Diipa Büller-Khosla’s hair is a 5,000-year-old ritual. The founder of the Ayurvedic beauty line Indē Wild credits her long, healthyto the ancient practice of hair oiling.
“It’s so much bigger than my mom doing it on a Sunday; it’s something every Indian household does,” Büller-Khosla says. “The way it’s evolved over the last few generations in my family, at least, usually you do it with your loved ones, but as I’ve been traveling and not always with my mother, I do it myself. It becomes a moment of self-care. ”I have two washdays: Wednesday and Sunday.
I wash my hair twice a week on each day. The Wednesday one is shorter, and Sunday is an everything shower. On Wednesdays, I’ll start in the morning or after work. I do a shorter hair-oiling session; I’ll massage it onto my scalp and down my hair and clip it up for 20 minutes.
Sometimes I’ll use a scalp brush for a deeper massage. On Wednesday, because I use a little bit of oil, I don’t have to double cleanse, but I like to use something clarifying once a week to remove all the buildup. It takes maybe four to five minutes longer, but it’s not that excessive.
On Sunday, I’ll start in the morning with hair oil, plait my hair, and go about my day to let the oil get into my scalp and my hair for a few hours. Then I’ll wash it out. I use a lot of oil on Sunday, so it’s good to double shampoo.from Ouai, then I’ll use our bond-repair shampoo as a second wash.
Then I’ll use the Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! first, then our conditioner. After I shampoo, I’ll use a microfiber I usually air-dry except when I’m going to an event. I like to use a little Oribe gold hair oil on my hair when it’s wet. While my hair is wet, I’ll use the gold oil, and then if I’m going to blow-dry, I’ll use the Color Wow Dream Coat.because it doesn’t damage my hair.
With the Dyson, it takes about 20 to 25 minutes. I’m not a big hair spray girl because I don’t like that crunchy feeling on my hair. When I go to events or the red carpet, the hairstylist will use it but not every day. By day two or three, I like to do a slick-back.
We have our sleek stick, and I’ll use that.before bed to protect my hair. I’ll loosely plait my hair and then sleep on a silk pillowcase. I get some mulberry ones from Amazon. It has to be 100 percent mulberry silk; that’s the best one for your hair.
I do heatless curls when I travel, when I’m on the plane, and it looks good when I land. I cut my own hair; I haven’t had a hairdresser cut my hair in quite a long time. I know what I want, and I wouldn’t recommend people doing this at home. I have many years of experience now doing it myself.
I do get it dyed by a professional. I cut it every three or four months, getting rid of the split ends and making sure my layers stay the way I like them. They don’t see the vision. I have a vision in my head, and I’m like,I don’t cut anyone else’s hair, but I did cut my husband’s hair during COVID, following Jen Atkin’s videos.
I use hair shears from Amazon. Internal and external beauty rituals are very common in Ayurveda. I don’t take supplements, but there is this fruit called amla, and it’s very popular in India. It’s like a superfood for hair, and I eat that.
I’ve been consistent with my hair care and nutrition; I haven’t had to take a supplement, but when I gave birth to my daughter, postpartum, I had extreme hair shedding and loss, so I took Nutrafol.
