UNDATED - A hacker group claimed to steal the personal records of 2.9 billion people, and now they're allegedly trying to sell them., a hacking group called USDoD claimed to steal 2.9 billion personal records from National Public Data in April, a service which provides information to employers or investigators for background checks.
National Public Data has not made a public statement or notified any customers about a possible breach. When asked about the incident through email, the company responded, "We are aware of certain third-party claims about consumer data and are investigating these issues."
