) - It’s been 10 years since Habitat for Humanity has built a home in Montgomery, but now the nonprofit is back, breaking ground on three new homes in the city. One of the three families receiving these homes is Ashley and Davyion Mayo, who both voiced their appreciation with “praise the Lord.”
The Mayos say they weren’t prepared for the expenses in life like buying a house. That’s when nonprofits like Habitat for Humanity steps in to help. “We are so excited to help provide affordable housing. That is a goal of the city, the county, everyone,” said Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Susan Johnson.
Johnson says anyone can apply. If a recipient qualifies and a project is available, they are only required to maintain a mortgage, and Johnson says it’s an affordable one. “These are people that just need a hand up. They perhaps can’t afford a $40,000 down payment,” she said.Alabama Power says customers soon to see lower ratesAlabama leaders approve contract to crack down on EBT theft cases
