Blanchard participated in a TikTok trend earlier this week in which she made a joke about the 2015 killing of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard. In the clip, Blanchard was teamed with influencer Natalie Reynolds for the video, dubbed, “We listen, and we don’t judge,” which involves poking fun at dark moments. "We listen, and we don’t judge. I went to prison for eight-and-a-half years, because I" she said, pausing to make a choking noise and forming an “X” with her arms, “my own mom.” Blanchard also admitted to wearing wigs in the clip, while Reynolds confessed to faking a pregnancy to keep an ex from breaking up with her. Usually, I think I can bank on my audience receiving things very well, but I’m not the type of person to be very in-your-face about my past." She continued, "This is the first time that I tried something different in a head-on approach. Unfortunately, it wasn’t received like we wanted." Blanchard also said in the interview, "The whole idea behind it is like, you know, yes, we understand that we’re not perfect. We are influencers, and we have gone through some difficult things, but we are focusing on positivity. That was the entire point of the video, is accountability and growth." In 2016, Blanchard pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for her role in her mother’s death. She was convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison and was released approximately two years early in 2023.
