Sgt Carly Hose said the suspect had fled the scene by the time officers arrived but was tracked down in a vehicle about five miles away from the plant.It was there, an"exchange of gunfire took place" that led to the Maryland State Police trooper getting hurt.Smithsburg, a community of nearly 3,000 people, is about 75 miles northwest of Baltimore not far from the Maryland border with Pennsylvania.
The shooting comes less than two weeks after 21 people were killed when high-school dropout Salvador Ramos
