The state had to bulldoze the 17 cabins that were heavily damaged by Hurricane Sally in 2020. Nine-million-dollars was spent to build back 20 brand new ones in their place at the Eagle Cottages site.

) - Gulf State Park unveiled its latest renovation on Lake Shelby Monday, April 15, 2024. Twenty new cabins are now open for business right on the lakeshore. The official ribbon cutting was Monday with several state and local dignitaries there to take part.

“I was prepared for rustic, so I brought some of my own things and I walked in and went, oh my. A four-star! It’s beautifully decorated and very convenient. It has everything we need,” Virginia Loflin said. The official ceremony was attended by both state and local dignitaries. The park is bordered by Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. Administrators from the two cities don’t always see eye to eye but where Gulf State Park is concerned, both mayors spoke of cherished childhood memories made there and with these new cabins, many more memories will surely be made by others.

With more than 6,000 acres of diverse habitat, trails, creaks and campgrounds, Gulf Shores Mayor, Robert Craft said the park is a local treasure and has a great impact on more people than we’ll ever know.
