Gulf Shores approves contracts to kickstart a 'Next Wave' program that includes a new high school.

“We will have several multiple conversations related to these plans as they mature,” Gulf Shores Mayor Robert Craft said. “We’ll continue to have public input what they are presenting and how it fits together.”

$355,900 to Walcott Adams Verneuille to prepare design, construction and bid documents for an eight-classroom addition at the existing Gulf Shores Elementary School.Gulf Shores City Administrator Steve Griffin said that Volkert will work with the other companies in scheduling the entire capital program.

Gulf Shores city schools is backing a 10-year program called “The Next Wave.” The plan’s highlight includes constructing a new high school on 200 acres of city-owned property abutting the Beach Express. The goal is to have the high school built by August 2025. At the elementary school, officials are going to undertake a three-phase project that includes eight new classroom additions, transforming existing classrooms into learning spaces with upgraded lighting and furniture, and the construction of a new connector that provides and indoor link to separated school buildings.At the existing high school, a renovation will take place under a two-phase project that would transform the structure into middle school for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders.
