Good morning. Here's the latest on that area of interest in the Gulf of Mexico:

While this week kicks off the 2023 Atlantic hurricane season and we have an area we're watching, the bottom line, for now, is that we're not concerned about significant tropical development. Among those is that it could over the next few days pull drier air into it. Drier air typically hinders tropical development, strengthening downdrafts of thunderstorms, not allowing thunderstorms to persist long enough near a surface low pressure to start the process of forming a tropical cyclone.
We could also see some areas of high surf and rip currents along the northern and eastern Gulf Coast and Southeast Atlantic coasts later this week into the weekend and early next week.
