Dozens of people are recovering from severe storms that swept across several counties along the Gulf Coast this weekend. The storms caused significant damage, including downed trees, scattered debris, and partially missing roofs. Residents spoke about the terrifying experience and emphasized the importance of heeding weather warnings and seeking shelter during severe weather events.
) - Dozens of people are still recovering after severe storms ripped through several counties across the Gulf Coast this weekend.Photos sent to FOX10 News show one home with a roof partially missing.FOX10 News spoke with a homeowner who suffered severe damage from the storm.“We hunkered down and we heard just terrible, terrible noise and there was a tornado,” Lindsay said.
Lindsay woke up to debris scattered across her yard, pieces of her neighbor’s roof, and several broken tree limbs.The recovery process is just beginning. She says she and her husband got up in the middle of the night, once they started hearing the alerts. “We were in bed and we were watching the television and we heard that there was a tornado on 32 and 59 which is near us,” Lindsay said. “We heard loud roaring and we thought we better get out of bed. And we got out of bed and went to the safe place and I’m glad we did.”Several homes along 7th Street had downed trees and scattered debris.“We’re very fortunate because we lost a flagpole, something over our back door, we lost that,” she said. “And we have a lot of people’s debris in our yard.
“When they say get to your safe place believe them,” she emphasized. “Go to your safe place and have that in your mind when you’re watching the news. “Like I said we’re very fortunate. Because no one was hurt and the lord protected us.”The National Weather Service will be out this week to survey the damage.
