The Gulf Coast is digging out from a historic snowstorm that dumped more than seven feet of snow in some areas, leaving behind dangerous black ice conditions. The storm brought an unusual amount of precipitation far south of its typical path, causing widespread disruption and travel concerns.
It's been an epic week weather-wise! We experienced historic snow that shattered records along our stretch of the Gulf Coast ! Tuesday's snowmaker unleashed more than 7' of snow in Mobile and nearly 9' of snow in Pensacola. Believe it or not, there is still snow and ice leftover. Sunshine sends today's afternoon highs into the lower 40s which should help accelerate the melting. Tonight turns frigid again as lows tumble into the 20s leading to some more black ice concerns.
If you can, avoid getting on the roads tonight through the first half of Friday morning as black ice is likely due to re-freezing of melted snow. Road conditions will improve by late morning as temperatures climb above freezing, but still use extreme caution. From your TGIF into the upcoming weekend, expect an uptick in temps and a return to more seasonable readings. Max temps will be in the mid to upper 40s Friday afternoon before falling back into the 20s Friday night. Saturday highs will be in the 50s and we're back to where we should be this time of year by Sunday with highs around 60
