Victor Frankenstein (Oscar Isaac) gives a demonstration in 'Frankenstein' (2025).

Among the most beautiful films of 2025 was Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein. Starring Jacob Elordi as the monster and Oscar Isaac as his creator Victor Frankenstein, the movie is del Toro’s gothic vision come alive.

After a short theatrical window, the movie debuted on Netflix with a lot of critical acclaim and fanfare. Based on Mary Shelley’s iconic novels, the fan favorite director brought his own touch to the final moments between the creator and his creation. While the gothic drama feels complete in itself, del Toro recently revealed that he’s stitching an extended cut of the film. The news comes out of Sundance , where del Toro was presenting the 4K restoration of his 1992 dark fantasy, Cronos. He revealed that he’s working on an extended cut and referred to it as the “all the stitches” cut for the loyal fans. Currently, it's unknown whether this extended cut will make it to the theatres, on streaming, or on physical media, which was previously confirmed by the director. Frankenstein is a stunning film, with the director’s signature visuals, practical sets, and gothic grandeur. It was widely loved by fans and critics, earning 94% and 85% on Rotten Tomatoes, respectively. The story has been adapted brilliantly, the production design is pristine, and there are equally compelling performances to match it all. The feature also stars Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz, Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, Christian Convery, and Charles Dance. Owing to the brilliant craft of the movie, it has garnered nine Academy Award nominations recently. Will There Be a ‘Bride of Frankenstein’? After Frankenstein’s success, fans were eager for more, and a rumor about a possible Bride of Frankenstein movie was garnering heat. Goth, who portrayed Elizabeth in the film, cleared the air about the rumored film. She told Collider’s Aidan Kelley, “I did bring that up to him, and he said, 'But Victor Frankenstein is dead',” she explained. That simple response, she admitted, presents a pretty major hurdle. “That is an issue. That is definitely an issue overall.” Goth’s comments make a lot of sense, given that in the source material, it’s a continuation of the story. Given Victor is dead in the movie, there seems to be no one who can help the creature bring his bride to life. But fans only need to wait a little longer for Maggie Gyllenhaal, who is bringing her own take to the tale with The Bride! starring Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale in the lead roles.
