Guillermo del Toro has revealed an incredibly embarrassing and pretty funny detail about Ron Perlman's Hellboy and his struggle with the massive gun.
Guillermo del Toro has revealed some embarrassing behind-the-scenes details about Hellboy actor Ron Perlman. Hellboy, released in 2004, starred Perlman as the titular hero, alongside John Hurt's Bruttenholm, Rupert Evan's John Myers, and Brian Steele's Sammael. An early superhero movie, the film centered around a demon with ties to the FBI Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense who regularly worked for humanity to stop supernatural enemies.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Yet, while Hellboy was a success, one casting choice made the movie a serious challenge. Given that Hellboy preferred to use a gigantic revolver called The Good Samaritan, Perlman needed to be capable of holding it for long periods without issue, just as Hellboy would. Yet, in an interview with WIRED, del Toro revealed why it was a struggle for Perlman.
"It took a while because it was very heavy and Ron has very weak arms. We needed to put a wire on the tip of the gun to [keep him from shaking]… I’m sorry, Ron!"Will Del Toro & Ron Perlman Ever Reunite For Hellboy 3? While Perlman may not be happy that del Toro revealed that story, after 18 years, it's clear that del Toro waited long enough to share.
Still, Perlman isn't completely done with the fantasy-horror franchise. Since Hellboy 3 was promised in 2008, Perlman wants to finish the del Toro Hellboy trilogy for the franchise's fans. While it has been over a decade since the second film in the trilogy was released, Avatar 2: The Way of Water and Top Gun: Maverick proved that sequels could be major hits no matter how long fans had to wait for the follow-up film.
Of course, the superhero landscape has changed considerably since Perlman first took up his role as the hero. With the Marvel Cinematic Universe now dominating theaters everywhere, there has never been a better opportunity to tie Hellboy in with other superheroes. Perlman has indicated a willingness to appear in the MCU or DCU.
