Pep Guardiola has cast doubt over Kevin De Bruyne's availability for Manchester City's Premier League clash with Newcastle this weekend, following a thigh injury sustained against Inter Milan in the Champions League.
Pep Guardiola could not confirm if Kevin De Bruyne will be fit enough for Manchester City 's trip to Newcastle this weekend.
De Bruyne came off with a thigh injury against Inter in the Champions League and while he felt better in the immediate aftermath it was not enough to see him in the squad for Sunday's draw with Arsenal. Ilkay Gundogan took De Bruyne's place in the starting XI, while Phil Foden also came off the bench.
Guardiola does not think De Bruyne's injury is a serious one like the ones that plagued him last season. However, the City boss does not expect him to feature against Watford in the League Cup on Tuesday and is unsure about Saturday's trip to the north-east.READ MORE: Bernardo launches extraordinary Arsenal attack after City draw
De Bruyne made a memorable return to Premier League action at St James' Park last season, returning from a five-month lay-off to score an equaliser and then brilliantly set up Oscar Bobb for a super injury-time winner that proved crucial to City winning the Premier League. City's Belgian had started the first five games of the season for his club as well as playing twice for his country before picking up the injury against Inter. The Blues head to Slovan Bratislava in the days after Newcastle before hosting Fulham at the Etihad in the final game before the October international break.
