Manager Terry Francona said the double play that started in right field was a game changer Tuesday night against the Reds.
What Brennan didn’t expect was for De La Cruz to tag up at first and try to advance to second after Brennan caught Steer’s fly ball.
The Reds lead the big leagues in steals. De La Cruz has played only 59 games in the big leagues, all this season, but he’s already stole second, third and home in the same inning on, get this, two pitches. The 6-foot-5 De La Cruz has also hit for the cycle just so he wouldn’t get bored. “Again just trying to throw your best bullet. There’s no real thought process. If you think, you bobble the ball and he’s safe.”“That was a really heads up play all the way around,” said Francona. “If Will puts his head down or takes a step I didn’t think it was a bad play by their guy.
