Tanner Bibee will remain in Cleveland as the Guardians head to Kansas City for three games.
Cleveland Guardians starting pitcher Tanner Bibee leaves the field with Cleveland Guardians manager Terry Francona and trainer James Quinlan after an injury time out in the sixth inning.CLEVELAND, Ohio — Tanner Bibee is not likely to make his next scheduled start for the Guardians after leaving Saturday’s start in the sixth inning with right hip tightness.
Pitching coach Carl Willis said the good news is that Bibee’s injury does not appear to be serious. The 24-year-old righty will remain in Cleveland to receive treatment while the team heads to Kansas City on Monday to open a three-game series against the Royals at Kauffman Stadium. When asked whether or not Bibee would be able to make his next start against Baltimore on Thursday, Willis said it was “highly unlikely.”
Bibee, a candidate for American League Rookie of the Year honors, exited Saturday’s game having allowed just one run in 5 1/3 innings. In his last 11 starts, Bibee is 5-2 with a 2.59 ERA and 64 strikeouts in 66 innings. He leads all AL rookie pitchers in WAR according to Fangraphs.com .
