Promising prospects and veteran players look to make an impact and earn a spot on the Guardians' roster this spring.
CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Guardians announced that 23 prospects and acquisitions from the club’s player development system have received invitations to major league spring training. The club also revealed that pitchers will report to camp Feb. 11 and the first full-squad workout will be Feb. 18 in Goodyear.
The regulars and the the Major League guys, you know, they’ll play a few innings and then they’ll check out and, you know, get their work in or whatever. He was actually in the locker room when they clinched their division title and and he was around to celebrate with the guys, but you know, had played 123 or 120 some games in Columbus already hitting 240. This is a guy.Still got at least two more years on his contract with a couple of club option years after that.
But we haven’t seen the guy that stole bases that hit for a decent average, and we didn’t even see it in Columbus this past season, so.I’m I’m I’m wondering just what’s what the Guardians are going to do eventually. Or do they just look at it like Joe, this is dead money.Yeah, I think that’s how they’re approaching it. Otherwise, because there’s there hasn’t been a demand for light hitting Glove first center field or anywhere in the big leagues right now.
But like you said, I would not be surprised if he, you know, makes a few late inning appearances in some Cactus League games. Make some Rd. trips you know, to on some games where the veterans don’t necessarily go.It is a reward for for, you know, players in the minor league camp to come over to even just make a make a trip with the Big league club just to see how these guys operate and what it takes to play in the big leagues and to get.
And maybe the, you know, the roll, the dice that the Guardians took trading Josh Bell for him could pay off another guy here.This is a guy who was a Rule 5 minor league phase draft pick this year out of the Giants organization.But another former first round pick, 15th overall.So you know this is a a guy who’s an infielder, a little bit older, sort of in a more of like a Daniel Schneeman type mold there, more mature player and and he’ll be in camp as well.
