Chris Antonetti would love to see Terry Francona continue to manage the Guardians, but above all he wants him to be healthy and enjoy the rest of his life.

On Wednesday, Francona said he will have his right shoulder replaced and undergo two hernia operations at the end of the season. Those three operations will be the latest chapter in Francona’s ongoing health concerns which include heart surgery, hip replacement, foot surgery because of a staph infection and gastrointenstinal problems that cost him all but 14 games of the 2020 pandemic season.“It’s like every winter I’m trying to get healthy for the season,” said Francona. “Then I get beat up.

“Tito, Mike and I talk every day,” said Antonetti. “There’s not a day that goes by that we’re not talking multiple times of day. We talk about things that are on his mind, what he’s thinking, how he’s feeling. There was nothing surprising to me or us yesterday.”“I think we’ve been pretty honest in our preferences,” said Antonetti. “We want Tito to manage here as long as he’s able to and it doesn’t conflict with his overall well being, fullfillment and happiness.

Francona is the winningest manager in Cleveland history. He has guided two teams to three World Series, winning two with Boston in 2004 and 2007. The Guardians lost in seven games in 2016.
