BALLGAME! Another epic comeback for the Guardians starts this series against Minnesota with a win. Guardians
CLEVELAND, Ohio — When the Twins went to their bullpen Friday, the Guardians went to work, rallying from a three-run deficit for a 4-3 victory at Progressive Field that cut their magic number to clinch the American League Central Division to 16.
Back-to-back singles by Josh Naylor and Oscar Gonzalez off Duran set the stage for pinch-runner Ernie Clement to score from second base on Duran’s wild pitch with Andrés Giménez at the plate. The win keeps Cleveland at least three games ahead of the White Sox in the AL Central Division race and drops the third-place Twins to five games back.
Giménez hustled down the line to reach base on Gordon’s miscue and went to third on pinch-hitter Owen Miller’s single to right. Myles Straw delivered an RBI single up the middle off Minnesota right-hander Griffin Jax to put Cleveland on the scoreboard. After Miller and Straw moved into scoring position on Steven Kwan’s ground out, Amed Rosario came through with the two-out hit the Guardians desperately needed. Down in the count 0-2, Rosario smashed a Jax fastball past Carlos Correa at short for a two-run single that tied the score at 3-3.Twins starter Bailey Ober allowed just one hit in five innings, walking one batter and hitting two others while cutting through Cleveland’s lineup with relative ease.
