Picks from the Guardians included first baseman C.J. Kayfus, catcher Cooper Ingle, shortstop Christian Knapczyk, center fielder Tommy Hawke, and shortstop Alex Mooney.
Ingle, another left-handed hitter, played five positions -- catcher, left and right field, DH and second base -- at Clemson.“He’s another guy who can manage the strike zone and make hard contact to all fields. He has ability to catch and play multiple positions which adds some depth to his defensive profile.”The left-handed Knapczyk is a contact-oriented hitter, but at 5-9 and 165 pounds he doesn’t drive the ball a lot. The Guardians may have to move him to second base.
Just a weird thought: When the Guardians were the Indians, didn’t they have a mascot named Tommy Hawk?“Tommy is a near top of the scale runner. He was the leadoff hitter for Wake Forest as they made a really deep run into the College World Series. He’s another guy with manages the strike zone and makes frequent hard contact and plays a premium position .”The 6-1, 195-pound Mooney is a right-handed hitter. He was the top high school prospect in Michigan before going to Duke.
The 6-3, 195-pound Driver has a funky three-quarter delivery. He’ll probably pitch his way into the bullpen, but he started this year for Harvard.“He’s a low slot sinker, slider pitcher. His fastball has reached 97 mph. He can throw an above average slider with that. He has deception and he’s a tough guy to square up.”Wilkerson, 6-1 and 265 pounds, was 10-2 in 16 games, including 14 starts. He struck out 136 and walked 19 in 84 innings, while posting a 1.07 ERA.
Teams have until July 25 to sign their draft picks. The Guardians signing bonus pool is $8.7 million.

2023 MLB Draft: Tanking in baseball is over — but not because the draft lottery killed itSEATTLE — In January 2015, ESPN published one of the first definitive opuses on the Philadelphia 76ers' controversial and revolutionary strategy to lose if not quite on purpose then certainly with purpose. The proposal to do so failed, but ESPN quoted the Lakers' owner condemning the practice anyway: 'If you're in tanking mode,' Jeanie Buss said, 'I think that's unforgivable.'
