The Guardiac Kids strike again!
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Guardiac Kids returned home in their accustomed style.
Arizona took a 5-4 lead in the 10th on a double-play grounder by Ketel Marte. The Guardians came right back with a run of their own in the 10th on a Andres Gimenez single that scored automatic runner Jose Ramirez, who moved from second to third on Josh Naylor grounder, to tie the score. It was Gimenez’s fourth hit of the game, but he wasn’t done.
Two-run homers by Miller and Rosario staked the Guardians to an early 4-1 lead. Quantrill, however, couldn’t hold it. Rosario, another Guardian who doesn’t hit a lot of homers, made it a 4-1 game with his two-run homer in the third. It was his fifth homer and first since July 9 against Kansas City. Rosario’s homer ended the night for Zach Davies, making his first start since June 25 because of a sore right shoulder, and lit the fuse on a bullpen game for the D-backs that never seemed to end.
Relievers Eli Morgan, James Karinchak, Emmanuel Clase, Trevor Stephan and Hentges held Arizona to one run over the last five innings.Gimenez started the sixth with a double and stole third with one out. Chris Devenski, however, struck out Nolan Jones and retired Austin Hedges on a grounder to third.
