A hotel guest in the Netherlands received an unforgettable surprise when they returned to their room to find a seal taking a nap. The incident occurred at Pier 7, a hotel in the beach town of Vlissingen, approximately 70 miles southwest of Rotterdam. According to a statement from the Zeeland Animal Welfare Foundation, staff at the hotel received a call from their restaurant downstairs alerting them to the unusual situation.
The guest, who had been out of their room, is believed to have accidentally left their door ajar, allowing the seal to enter while they were away. The seal, described as being quite grumpy due to its disturbed beauty sleep, was discovered relaxing in the bedroom. \Fortunately, the Zeeland Animal Welfare Foundation was able to quickly enlist the help of Reddingsteam Zeedieren Nederland RTZ (Marine Animals Rescue Team Netherlands RTZ), who have extensive experience handling such situations. The RTZ employees swiftly arrived at the scene and, with care, placed the seal into a specialized seal basket. They then relocated the animal to a quieter, safer location. \While the seal was described as completely relaxed and posed no immediate threat, officials took the opportunity to remind the public that seals, despite their seemingly adorable nature, can bite and should not be approached or touched. Animal welfare experts noted that grey seals often venture into unexpected places, seeking out comfortable resting spots, sometimes even appearing on terraces or roads. This incident, they said, serves as a reminder of the fascinating and unpredictable nature of wildlife.
