Realising that I might be gay felt like such a relief – I realised I’d never fit in with their straight expectations and it gave me an opportunity to renegotiate being a woman on my own terms.
Step by step, I started letting go and accepting that I was never going to fit other people’s ideas of what it means to be a perfect girl or woman.
