Several homeless people have begun living on a quiet street corner in Seattle's Bitter Lake neighborhood and neighbors said the site has been growing.
Campers say there are about four people living here regularly at the corner of Phinney Ave N and N 125th St, which is a relatively quiet street corner in the Bitter Lake neighborhood of Seattle. A recreational vehicle first showed up about a week and a half ago, parking on Phinney Ave N and N 125th St. Now there are a couple more tents, a collection of shopping carts, and other assorted clutter stacked up along the side of the road. A man named Ivan, who was at the small encampment, said he has no place else to go, no job, and uses fentanyl and methamphetamine as often as he can. Ivan said he does his best to keep to himself and not antagonize any neighbors.The pastor said his church coordinates with other faith groups in the area to help host tent cities and provide other services to homeless people, but they have not had success with the people living just outside their property line.
Neighbors said they have not directly witnessed any criminal activity at this point, but they do have concerns about some of the erratic behavior they see. They have also noticed a steady stream of different people who show up at all hours of the night. KOMO News has reached out to city officials and heard back from a spokesperson in the mayor’s office, who said they would have more information once the work week resumes.
