The Consumer Federation of America and Mozilla, along with other organizations, sent a letter to the White House urging President Biden to maintain key rules for AI testing and transparency. They argue that these rules are essential to protect consumers and prevent potential harm from AI systems.
A joint letter from the Consumer Federation of America and Mozilla implored the White House to keep"key rules" in place for AI testing and transparency.
The letter described the prior rules as including"guardrails so basic that any engineer should be ashamed to release a product without them." Biden's order mandated that developers of large-scale AI systems, particularly ones that may pose a risk to U.S. national security, public health or the economy, share safety test results with the U.S. government before releasing the technology to the public.
They said the bar set by the prior rules"is not high" and"is the least our seniors, veterans, and everyday consumers deserve."
