TUGUEGARAO CITY: Thousands of Cagayanos who represent the youth, Church, women, academe, education and agriculture sectors, as well as local officials gathered at the Rizal Park in this city for a prayer rally in connection with the inclusion of two sites in the province in the list of installations that American forces can use under the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (Edca).
'We are asking for a miracle that the President [Ferdinand Marcos Jr.] will change his mind about Edca,' Tuao, Cagayan Mayor William Mamba told an estimated 7,000 people.Clarita Lunas, retired regional supervisor from the Department of Education and a provincial consultant on education, said the prayer rally was planned after it was learned that two Edca sites will be established in Cagayan: one at the Naval Base Camilo Osias in Santa Ana and another at the Lal-lo Airport.
Lunas said Cagayan is not against President Marcos 'neither are we against the national policy.''What we are clearly fighting against is the establishment of two Edca sites in our province,' she said. 'It is the duty of our leaders to protect the Cagayan people from the hardship and suffering brought about by a potential war between the US-China over the Taiwan issue.'In his speech during the prayer rally, Cagayan Gov.
