Contrary to popular belief, the Groundhog Day observance is actually an all-night affair, culminating in the morning's official prediction.
Phil's track record, however, hasn't been particularly impressive. Over the past decade, his predictions have been accurate only 30 percent of the time. For Phil to enhance his forecasting prowess, he needs to see his shadow more frequently. Seeing his shadow signifies six more weeks of winter. Notably, out of the past 20 years, 17 have experienced warmer-than-average temperatures. The National Weather Service predicts that both February and March this year will likely be warmer than average.
