Yikes. Buckeye Chuck wouldn’t even come out of his burrow.
that if the groundhog casts a shadow on Feb. 2, winter weather will continue for six more weeks. The absence of a shadow means an early spring is on the way.
“It all comes down to that shadow. It all comes down to the weather and it all comes down to Buckeye Chuck,” Paul James of iHeart Media WMRN told the crowd. In 2022, Chuck didn’t see his shadows, indicating an early end to winter. His prediction was counter to one made by Punxsutawney Phil, his Pennsylvania counterpart.
Turns out Phil’s prediction was more on the money, as James recently conceded to the Lima Rotary Club. James, though, defended Chuck’s forecasting skills. “Buckeye Chuck is 75% accurate since his 43 predictions already,” James said. “75%, that is pretty good. Last year, he failed miserably, God bless him. But yea we had a pretty lousy February if you guys remember in 2022. So, Buckeye Chuck failed last year, but by golly, we got good hopes for him this year.”If you purchase a product or register for an account through one of the links on our site, we may receive compensation.
