The loss of the veteran center is a blow to a Memphis squad already entering this season without suspended star Ja Morant and injured forward Brandon Clarke.
Memphis's rebounding fell off sharply last season after Steven Adams injured his knee in January. Memphis Grizzlies center Steven Adams is set to have knee surgery that will end his season, the team announced Sunday.
Adams, 30, originally injured his right posterior cruciate ligament in January, and he opted for a stem cell injection in March. When that failed to produce the desired improvement, Adams was shelved for the postseason, which saw Memphis fall to the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round. The Grizzlies said Sunday that “non-operative rehabilitation did not resolve ongoing knee instability.” The team added that Adams is “expected to make a full recovery” before next season.
The loss of the veteran center further thins out a Memphis roster that was already set to start the regular season Wednesday without a couple of key pieces. Forward Brandon Clarke remains out indefinitely after he tore his left Achilles’ tendon in March, and star point guard Ja Morant will open the season on a. The NBA handed Morant the ban earlier this year after he appeared to flash a gun on social media for the second time in a three-month span.
Over his 10-year career, Adams has averaged 9.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.0 blocks and a 17.1 player efficiency rating. He agreed last year to a two-year contract extension, worth $25.2 million, that ties him to the Grizzlies through the 2024-25 season.Capitals’ two-goal comeback isn’t enough during an OT loss in Montreal
