Griquas scored 32 unanswered points to come from a half-time deficit and beat Western Province in a Currie Cup clash in Cape Town on Saturday.
The result saw Griquas bounce back from last week’s defeat to the Pumas to claim a 32-13 victory – their second of the campaign and fifth in a row against WP.Despite fielding a backline depleted by injuries and Champions Cup commitments, Province started the stronger of the two sides and took a 13-0 lead into the break thanks to wing Fazeel Robertson’s first try and two penalties from flyhalf Kade Wolhuter.
However, Griquas made their depth count in the second half as last season’s finalists roared back with two quickfire tries in the opening 10 minutes of the half. The visitors then took the lead when flyhalf George Whitehead added a couple of penalties to go with centre Jay-Cee Nel’s try. While Province tried to claw their way back into the contest, it was Griquas who finished on a high, as lock Derik Pretorius scored the bonus-point try.
