A new trailer for GreysAnatomy season 19 reveals a six-month time jump and teases Meredith and Nick's reunion.
A new Grey's Anatomy season 19 trailer reveals a six-month time jump for the show. After several episodes with the hospital's teaching program on the line, Grey Sloan Memorial lost its residency program accreditation in the season 18 finale, which aired in May. The episode also saw many characters leaving the hospital, with Catherine and Richard taking a sabbatical, Bailey quitting, and Owen and Teddy fleeing Seattle after Owen's illegal activities.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In the months since season 18 ended, viewers have gotten a better idea of what to expect in Grey's Anatomy season 19. The show will bring in five new interns as Grey Sloan looks to reclaim its position as a top teaching hospital. The new characters are positioned to help fill the void that will be left by Meredith only appearing in eight episodes as star Ellen Pompeo works on other projects.
What The Grey's Anatomy Season 19 Time Jump Means For The Characters It's smart of Grey's Anatomy to jump forward before season 19 for a few reasons. One, it will accelerate the storylines in a major way, particularly Meredith's. Since Pompeo will appear in relatively few episodes this season, it makes sense the writers are keen to jump into meaty storylines like Meredith leading the interns and seeing Nick after their time apart.
The time jump is very much in the spirit of rebirth touted as a theme for the season. Still, the trailer makes it clear Grey's Anatomy season 19 won't forget its roots, with Meredith's reference to elevators a fun callback to early seasons and her relationship with Derek. The trailer suggests an exciting season for both longtime viewers and those checking out the series for the first time.
