The DUP’s Mr Campbell took the seat by just 179 votes over Kathleen McGurk.

Gregory Campbell has promised to build a “better future for our people” as he retained the East Londonderry seat he has held for 23 years.

After promising a short speech, Mr Campbell said: “I couldn’t have had a better team, they canvassed thousands upon thousands of doors and I thank them one and all. “Those who held the line against them, forcing them to do so were the peacemakers. We’re in a different era now thanks to those genuine peacemakers.
