With about 45 days remaining in legislative session, Abbott’s push for vouchers is facing an uphill climb in the House, the same dynamic that has doomed previous efforts for vouchers.Rather than acknowledge this as a significant setback, Abbott’s staff has said they were encouraged because they didn’t lose the vote as badly as in 2021, when there were 115 votes against vouchers."This vote shows the Legislature remains open to school choice," his spokeswoman said.
In addition to parents and kids from the school, many in the crowd count themselves as longtime supporters of Abbott, and they came to see and cheer for him.
