A Presidential Disaster Declaration has been extended to five more Texas counties following extreme weather.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced on Wednesday that a Presidential Disaster Declaration in place across parts of his state following severe weather has been extended to an additional five counties by the Federal Emergency Management Agency .The expanded Presidential Disaster Declaration now covers the counties of Austin, Dallas, Hockley, Kaufman and Newton making them eligible for further aid from FEMA's public assistance program.

I thank our federal partners for continuing to work with Texas officials to support our recovery efforts as Texans rebuild and move forward.'Newsweek has contacted the FEMA press office for comment by email on Thursday outside of usual business hours.Abbott's request for a major disaster declaration for a number of Texan counties hit by severe weather since April 26 was first partially approved on May 17, then extended to an additional seven counties in a May 23 update.
